Morning Media Blitz

Open your newspaper, turn on your computer, phone the neighbors, wake the kids: Hard to miss the fact that it’s Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts opening weekend…

This morning’s Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is jam-packed with PIFOF features, from the cover to the latter pages of the A&E section. Jane Vranish has a feature on the Festival, highlighting – at least photographically – Ballet Maribor’s setting of Radiohead to dance. Erstwhile new-music writer Manny Theiner reviews the latest from Rudresh Mahanthappa, and the P-G art-crit surpreme, Mary Thomas writes up Gravity of Light

Check out your local coffeeshop for a copy of today’s Pittsburgh City Paper, and you’ll find long-time jazz writer Mike Shanley illuminating Rudresh, and Steve Sucato writing about “Radio & Juliet.”

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review had their PIFOF-blast last weekend, with a full-on feature about the Festival lineup by the Trib staff, and, doubtless, there’s more to come.

With several of the PIFOF shows getting close to the dreaded sell-out mark in advance ticket sales, and such a barrage of media – umm – stuff, and I say this as a friend, not just a blogger, you might wanna consider clicking over a few pages and snapping up some tickets. Before your neighbors do.
